competitive application in September of each year in advance of the next June’s trips; applications evaluated by faculty and HOMBRE Board members
Program elements:
16-hour (1-credit) pre-trip Global Health Elective required for all students and participants; in-country clinical care, public health projects, and research opportunities
Financial support:
Funds provided by Dean’s offices to support a portion of the airfare costs for medical and pharmacy students
Faculty time allotted:
None formally; faculty travel on the trip is treated as teaching/administrative time as opposed to vacation/PTO
Administrative support:
Some support provided by the VCU Department of Family Medicine and Population Health
